What Does the AOA Do?
The AOA is committed to providing health services to those in need
There are different rules for billing and claiming health services for different groups of individuals in Canada. The AOA has contracts with several health service programs to make it easier for some groups to claim their eye care costs.
You will find information about the different programs along with links to further information in the sections below. The contracts are negotiated by Rick Miller, Chair of the Negotiations Committee.
The College of Opticians of Alberta (COA) is a regulatory body that is charged with one job; to protect the public and does this by ensuring that opticians who provide services to the public are licensed to do so and maintain a registry as such. The College fields all complaints by the public or other professionals and administers discipline against opticians when required and ensures that opticians are meeting continued competency requirements.
The Association, on the other hand, exists for opticians with a main role to of advocating for opticians with the public, the government and with other professional organizations.
